When The Beatles played in Hamburg, 17-and-a-half-year-old George was there to soak in the music he heard from other aspiring groups, as well as becoming road-honed, along with the rest of The Quarrymen. Paul McCartney took George along to an audition for John Lennon’s Quarrymen in 1958, and, upon reaching the age of 15, he was accepted as a full-time member.
